Paintings on Clay

Yuki was commissioned by New York based architect William T. Georgis, to create 200 sets of 3-piece tableware (charger, platter and soup bowl) and half-dozen large serving platters, for a private residential project in the Hamptons. To maximize functionality, porcelain was chosen as the medium with a simple request by the architect to have "lots of blue". Each piece was individually cast or hand spun by craftsmen in the family run kiln located in Seto, one of the six ancient ceramic manufacturing sites of Japan. Yuki applied his brush paintings and bold glazing one by one, firing them twice with cobalt under glaze, and then Kutani glaze with pure Gold. The project took five months from conception to delivery.
